In this TED talk Shawn Achor claims that 75% of job successes are predicted by your optimism levels, your social support and your ability to see stress as a challenge instead of a threat.

He says that the formula for success for most people is “If I work harder then I will be more successful and if I’m more successful then I will be happier.”

This, however, is wrong and needs to be reversed.  If happiness is on the other side of success, your brain never gets there. The brain must become positive in the present.

Shawn suggests five ways to train the brain to become more positive:

1.  3 Gratitudes – write down 3 things you are grateful for every day for 21 days

2.  Journaling – write 1 positive experience you have had in the last 24 hours

3.  Exercise

4.  Meditation
