100th Post – Thank You! — August 24, 2013

100th Post – Thank You!

English: Hot air balloon back-lit by early sun...

I started this blog a few years ago.  After just a couple of posts the blog remained untouched as my focus was forced to shift to other areas in my life, particularly the fall-out of a long and difficult divorce.

I think of John Lennon’s lyrics, “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.”  The interesting thing about time is that it continues to pass, regardless of what we are doing.

Hopefully, through this blog (and others I have started like One Loaf of Bread), I have posted ideas that have been useful to you.  I hope it helps you laugh, cry, reach new heights, reevaluate time and realize that every second counts. I am reminded of this on a daily basis.

A BIG THANKS to everyone who has sent me messages and given me support.

You are the best!

Thanks also to the many unknown friends who stop by and read the blog.

I recently saw Soul Pancake’s Experiment in Gratitude and I want to share the video with you.  It is 7 minutes, but definitely worth it.

THANKS AGAIN!

Who has influenced you the most?

Express your gratitude to that person!  It will make your day!

What to Get Mom For Mother’s Day — May 10, 2013

What to Get Mom For Mother’s Day

Disney RideI have just recently watched my mom condense a large house full of items that have been collected over a lifetime into what could fit into the back of a van.  It was not a fun project.

How does one decide what is important?  In the end it is just a lot of stuff.

I love the article on Life Edited this week:  6 Gift Ideas for a Stuff-Free Mom’s Day

The BEST gifts are experiences

Memories are far easier to keep than things that collect dust in the corner of a large house.

Following are a few ideas from the article.  I love these ideas and if you follow this advice your mom will thank you in the end!

  1. Give a class.  I once received a gift certificate for a chocolate class.  BEST gift ever!
  2. Give a walking tour
  3. Pamper her
  4. Go on a date
  5. Write her a letter/poem
  6. Ask her what she wants

Chocolate is also a great option.  Perhaps even a chocolate tasting party.  (Cheese tastings are also a lot of fun.)

I am continuing to edit my life collection of stuff.  As I give away items I feel as though a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders.  It is creating a lot more freedom.

Enjoy a relaxing weekend.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Oh, the Places You’ll Go!

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go…”

March 1, 2013 kicks off the 16th annual Read Across America Day.  Uma Thurman and Jake T. Austin will be at the New York Public Library along with 250 children to celebrate reading and Dr. Seuss.

You’re never too old, too wacky, too wild,
To pick up a book and read with a child.

You’re never too busy, too cool, or too hot,
To pick up a book and share what you’ve got.

In schools and communities,
Let’s gather around,
Let’s pick up a book,
Let’s pass it around.

There are kids all around you,
Kids who will need
Someone to hug,
Someone to read.

Come join us March 1st
Your own special way
And make this America’s
Read to Kids Day

March 2 – Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Join the celebration!

(I’ll be curled up in my favorite chair reading a great book!)
